Summer '26 Generally Available Release
The S-Docs Summer 2026 Release delivers one of the biggest advancements to the S-Docs authoring experience to date. At the center of the release is the Visual Template Editor, a page-based authoring experience designed to make sophisticated PDF templates easier to create with less reliance on source code.
The release also introduces a redesigned Visual PDF-Upload Editor, expands S-Docs e-Signature - our e-Signature experience built into the core S-Docs package - and adds new declarative capabilities for advanced data, calculations, template management, and signature workflows.
Summer '26 Release Overview
- Build Sophisticated PDF Templates Visually: The new Visual Template Editor provides a true WYSIWYG, page-based workspace with familiar formatting controls, simplified variable (merge field) insertion, visual related list and conditional logic builders, and live Salesforce record previews. You can also build formulas and call executable Apex directly in the editor, reducing the need to work with source code.
- Create and Configure PDF-Upload Templates More Easily: The redesigned Visual PDF-Upload Editor makes it easier to add Salesforce data onto any existing PDF. Choose any Salesforce field from our redesigned variable menu, drag it onto the document, and use declarative tools to configure how you want your data displayed. You can also configure S-Docs e-Signature signer profiles and input fields directly on PDF-Upload templates for use with repeatable e-Signature workflows.
- Connect Document Generation and e-Signature: S-Docs e-Signature brings signing capabilities into the core S-Docs package. A new one-click setup experience lets you get started immediately. Upload any PDF for on-the-fly signature requests, or templatize your e-Signature workflows by building signature fields and signer data into PDF-Upload templates for repeatable workflows.
Major updates
Visual Template Editor
The new Visual Template Editor gives you a page-based workspace for building PDF templates without working directly in HTML or CSS.
Format content with a familiar editing ribbon, insert Salesforce fields from a sidebar or by typing the @ symbol, edit headers and footers directly on the page, and preview the finished document by selecting from a list of live Salesforce records at any time.
Reimagined Variables (Merge Fields)
Insert Salesforce variables (merge fields) through a redesigned sidebar menu. All base object fields are available, and you can access related fields up to five relationships deep without leaving the document canvas. Search for specific fields or filter by field type, including text, number, Boolean, date, or related object fields.
Variables appear in your document as clickable tokens. Select a variable to rename it, format its output when applicable, or change its configuration.
Use SOQL queries to make fields from unrelated objects available in the Variables menu, alongside runtime variables such as the document date or generating user (formerly "Special Merge Fields").
If your document uses inputs collected through a Salesforce Screen Flow, you can define those inputs as variables and insert them into your template from the Variables menu.
Declarative Related Lists
Use the redesigned Related List Builder to create dynamic tables without writing markup. Choose a list, add filters, limits, and sorting, configure and rearrange columns, and adjust table settings from one sidebar while seeing the table update directly on your document.
Write your own SOQL queries to build lists of unrelated data, use those queries as the data source for a related list, and format the resulting table with the same tools (see expanded information on this later in the release notes).
Declarative Conditional Logic
Configure conditional logic visually to show or hide text, merge fields, and other content based on Salesforce data without leaving the document canvas. Conditional content appears inside orange-shaded boundaries on the canvas, making it easier to see which content each condition controls.
Combine multiple conditions using AND/OR logic.
Advanced Data Tab
The new Advanced Data tab provides additional tools for bringing data and logic into your template. It includes three tabs: Variables, Objects, and Lists.
Variables - User Inputs
Define user input variables and use them as fields in your template. These variables are exposed in Salesforce Screen Flow configuration, so information collected from users generating documents through Screen Flows can be mapped into the document at the template level.
Variables - Formulas
Use the new Formula Builder to create calculations and other formula-based data operations directly in the template editor without writing source code.
Objects - SOQL
Write SOQL queries, preview and validate their output, and make returned fields available in the Variables menu for insertion into your template. This provides a visual replacement for the Classic Editor's "Named Query" workflow.
Objects - Executable Apex
Select compatible Apex classes from within the template editor and map template context or Salesforce record fields to their inputs. Values returned by the Apex class can then be used as variables or related list columns within the template.
Lists - SOQL
Write, preview, and validate SOQL queries and use the returned data as the source for a dynamic related list table.
Improved Template Management
Changes now autosave as you work, but only become available for document generation after you click Publish. This separates Draft, Published, and Unpublished template states.
Visual PDF-Upload Editor
Use the redesigned Visual PDF-Upload Editor to turn an existing PDF into a dynamic S-Docs template. Search for Salesforce variables from the new sidebar menu and drag them onto the document, instead of configuring each input field separately in the Classic Editor experience.
Configure S-Docs e-Signature directly in the editor by adding signer profiles, signature fields, and other inputs to the PDF for dynamic, repeatable generation and signing workflows.
S-Docs e-Signature
S-Docs e-Signature brings electronic signature into the core S-Docs package, so document generation and signing can be managed as part of the same workflow.
Upload any PDF, add signer data and input fields, and send it for signature from the S-Docs e-Signature object or directly from a Salesforce record.
For repeatable workflows, you can configure signer profiles and input field placement directly in a Visual PDF-Upload template.
Add Multiple Generated Documents to an S-Docs e-Signature Request
When sending a generated PDF-Upload document for e-Signature through the S-Docs Lightning Web Component, you can now add additional previously generated S-Docs PDFs to that request. This lets you assemble multiple S-Docs documents into a single signing packet.
Existing Templates and the Classic Editor
Upgrading to Summer '26 does not automatically convert your existing templates to the new Visual Template Editor. Existing templates remain in the Classic Editor, and the Classic Editor remains available for functionality and workflows that are not yet supported in the Visual Template Editor.
New PDF and PDF-Upload templates open in the Visual Template Editor by default. You can switch a Visual Template to the Classic Editor when necessary from the Document Settings menu. There is currently no automatic Classic-to-Visual conversion path.
Existing S-Sign templates remain supported. If a template uses functionality from the separate S-Sign package, it must continue to use the Classic Editor.
